The state Department of Environment Protection awarded funding to 10 midstate small businesses to invest in energy efficiency or pollution prevention upgrades, according to a news release.
The state's Small Business Advantage Grant Program allows companies with less than 100 employees to receive 50 percent matching reimbursement grants of up to $7,500. The money must be used to install projects saving at least $1,000, along with saving 25 percent annually in pollution prevention or energy-related costs.
Projects can include insulation or heating, ventilation and air conditioning system upgrades; high-efficiency lighting installation; energy-efficient heat pumps; or auxiliary power units to reduce idle engine time for large trucks, according to the department.
"It gives them the opportunity to lower the costs of production, which makes them better environmental stewards and more competitive," DEP Secretary Mike Krancer said in a statement.
The department awarded a total of $245,380 to 43 businesses across the state.
Local companies receiving money are:
Baugher Motors Inc. in Jefferson, York County.
Boxer Express in Lower Paxton Township, Dauphin County.
Cooper Motors Inc. in Penn Township, York County.
Fields Family Dentistry in Upper Allen Township, Cumberland County.
