Innovative small businesses in the textile, clothing and footwear (TCF) sector will get a boost of up to $50,000 in grants for business improvement projects as part of a $2.5m Federal Government fund announced last month.

The fund is designed to help small TCF businesses improve their operations.

The local TCF manufacturing sector employees around 42,000 people and is largely made up of amall and medium sized businesses.

The grants are a government initiative targeted at boosting the dwindling TCF sector and help it remain competitive against overseas based manufacturers.

The grants are a part of a $406m total package to transform the TCF sector.

Since 2005 the TCF SBP has distributed $15m to over 400 small TCF businesses that manufacture in Australia, or design for manufacture in Australia.

The grants will be awarded to support projects in areas of marketing and branding, process and strategy improvement, supply chains, e-commerce and export opportunity development.

Applications for Round 7 close on 24 February 2012.

AusIndustry will run workshops nationally to assist businesses applying for the program in early February 2011. Businesses can register for these workshops on AusIndustry’s website.
